Waterproof plywood/hdhmr Myth Busted: The Truth About Fungal Attack!
Fungal attack is one of the oldest problems people face with furniture, kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and wardrobes. Moisture and humidity is considered as one of the most common reasons for fungal attack. That is why, in the past few years, people started choosing waterproof plywood or HDHMR Boards to prevent fungal attack. Many manufacturers also claim that use of waterproof ply or high-density high moisture resistant boards will completely protect your furniture, kitchen & bathroom cabinets from fungal. But is it really true? We at Haren Ply believe in keeping our customers informed about all our products. That is why, through this blog, we are busting the myth about the fungal attack and will share the reason behind it. Can Waterproof Plywood or HDHMR Boards Prevent Fungal Attack? What if we say that this is a myth and waterproof plywood or HDHMR Boards do not guarantee protecting your furniture from fungal attack? People tend to believe that if a plywood or HDHMR board is waterproof, it is automatically resistant to fungal growth as well. But one must understand that waterproof means it offers resistivity to water and will not absorb water easily. It will not deform or swell by absorbing water due to water resistivity. But when we speak about fungus, it not alone thrives on water, but it also occurs at places with poor ventilation, humidity, and where they find organic matter and warmth. And waterproof plywood cannot prevent all of these, so you need not think that your ply is not waterproof. Instead, you need to understand that the fungal is occurring due to poor ventilation and unhygienic conditions. Which Plywood or Material to Choose to Prevent Fungal Attacks? Be it your kitchen cabinet or your bathroom cabinet or the furniture that you have placed near highly damp areas, fungal attack is quite natural at all these places. Though you may find several manufacturers claiming that they use chemical treatments to make their ply anti-fungal. But we do not recommend choosing that, as one cannot guarantee for how long they will offer protection from fungus. Instead, we recommend choosing PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) boards or WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) boards to use at areas which have high chances of fungal attack. PVC and WPC Boards are made of non-organic material unlike HDHMR boards or waterproof plywood. These boards offer complete resistivity to fungal attack even when used for years. With no use of wood, they also offer resistivity to water, even when exposed to water for a long time. It is what makes them a perfect choice for kitchen cabinets, placement under sink, bathroom cabinets, and other such areas with low ventilation and more dampness. Conclusion One must understand that every area requires different materials for construction. We cannot make use of waterproof plywood or HDHMR boards to prevent fungal attack. But choosing PVC Boards or WPC Boards will offer foolproof resistance making them an excellent choice for the long run. We hope next time when you invest in any of these boards, you do not have any doubt about fungal attack. We at Haren Ply are into this business for a long time and we believe in maintaining transparency with our customers. We are known for our exclusive range of waterproof plywood, HDHMR boards, PVC boards, and WPC boards.
